The focus of this work reflects a course I taught at the University of Chicago in the 1950s on "economic geography," in which I broke the usual rules by emphasizing ecological and technological and even sociological factors rather than the economic order as such. I must have left the students very confused! The closing paragraph stated the key notion: human work transforming "nature". |
